The development team working on the Disney Infinity franchise at Disney is confirming that it is planning to add the Avengers superhero group in a new 2.0 Edition of the game, although it is unclear when it might be introduced or what other content it might contain.

The information comes from the official Twitter account of the Marvel comic book company and points to a short video that shows off the familiar characters of the video game franchise and features a short appearance from Captain America and his shield.

Rumors about coming Marvel content for Disney Infinity have existed for months, but none of the companies involved with the game has offered any kind of confirmation until now.

It’s unclear whether the 2.0 Edition of the game will involve an entire new release or will simply update the already existing game.

The addition of The Avengers to the toy-powered video game will probably mean that other Marvel-based content will be added over the coming year, gradually expanding the universe of the title.

Rumors also suggested that the Star Wars content would be added to Disney Infinity, but no official information about it has been offered so far, which probably means that gamers might have to wait until 2015 to get it.
