The team is focusing on core content and characters at the moment

Masahiro Sakurai, the game director currently working on Super Smash Bros., is not exploring the possibility of creating downloadable content packs for the brawler that’s set to arrive on the Wii U home console and the 3DS handheld at the moment.

He is quoted by the Official Nintendo Magazine as saying that, “Our goal is to have a Smash Bros. that has enough content, in terms of characters and stages, and that’s where all our energies are focused.”

It’s not yet clear how many characters and battle arenas will be offered in Super Smash Bros.

Sakurai makes it clear that his team is not philosophically opposed to DLC, but there’s still a lot of work associated with the core game experience that needs to be created.

The game will be launched in 2014.
