Blizzard has confirmed that its upcoming Diablo 3 patch 2.1 will improve the artificial intelligence of pets for all the game's classes, like the Witch Doctor, so that they're more useful and target enemies in better ways.

Diablo 3 has a wide range of classes and, with the recent Reaper of Souls expansion, another character appeared, in the form of the Crusader.

Quite a few of the classes can summon allies (aka pets) in combat, from the Monk's Mystic Ally, to the Crusader Call of the Ancients, but by far the most pet-heavy class is the Witch Doctor, which can summon Zombie Dogs, the Gargantuan, or the Fetish Army.

According to a Blizzard representative that posted on the Battle.net forums, the upcoming Diablo 3 patch 2.1 will bring big changes to the AI and the behavior of several pets in the game, in order to improve their attack patterns and no longer cause them to do nothing while enemies are attacking the player.

"We're also fixing a number of issues that sometimes prevented some pets from attacking nearby enemies, or caused them to stand still and stop attacking their current target," the rep said.

The pet abilities affected by the changes in patch 2.1 will be Call of the Ancients, Companion, Fetish Army, Gargantuan, Mystic Ally, Phalanx, Zombie Dogs.

Unfortunately, update 2.1 for Diablo 3 still has no exact release date. Blizzard has promised that it's going to be uploaded to the Public Test Realm soon, but that also doesn’t have an exact date.
