The Call of Duty franchise from Activision Blizzard has not yet received a third-person installment but it came very close during 2008, when development was very advanced on a game called Call of Duty: Devil’s Brigade.

The project was cancelled after the merger between Activision and Vivendi and was set to follow the exploits of a World War II era unit that bore the nickname and was made up of both Canadian and United States soldiers.

It seems that there were no development problems with the game itself and that the team working on it came pretty close to completing it.

More recently Sledgehammer Games, which was formed by veterans of Dead Space, has stated that they had an idea for a third-person Call of Duty game in the works, but the project was canceled by Activision Blizzard.

More information on the cancelled project can be found at The Verge.
