Mikkel Thorsted, the co-founder of developer Press Play, says that video game publisher Microsoft has big long-term plans for indie developers and is looking for companies who can deliver weird and innovative experiences.

He tells The Official Xbox Magazine that Microsoft “was looking for a team with the potential to make weird stuff. We were one of the very few. A perfect match.”

Thorsted also says that Microsoft is catering to the unique needs of the indie teams and handles the entire economics aspect of development while giving developers freedom to work on the ideas that they love.

Sony has already said during the PlayStation 4 reveal event that it wants to attract independent developers to its next-gen platform and Microsoft will probably reveal a similar approach on May 21, when the Xbox 720 is finally shown to the public.
