Hidden Path Entertainment and 505 Games have confirmed that Defense Grid 2, the upcoming tower defense game that's set to debut for PC, Mac, and Linux, will also appear on the PS4 and Xbox One platforms this year.

Defense Grid: The Awakening offered a great tower defense experience on the PC and Xbox 360 platforms a few years ago, allowing players to face off against aliens using a variety of powerful towers.

After a successful Kickstarter campaign and an investment from Dracogen, Hidden Path revealed last year that Defense Grid 2 was happening and would appear in 2014 for PC, Mac, and Linux.

Now, Hidden Path has secured publishing with 505 Games and has just confirmed on the official website that Defense Grid 2 is also going to appear for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

The new title will be released as a downloadable experience onto those platforms, via the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

Defense Grid 2, in case you forgot, once again tasks players with protecting their power cores in multiple locations, giving them access to old towers but also brand new instruments of stopping enemies, which have increased in number and aggressiveness.

The game will also include a cooperative and competitive multiplayer mode, not to mention user-created content, which could mean that new maps can be made and shared by regular players.
