Dean Hall, the creator of the hugely popular DayZ mod, says that complexity in video games is necessary and can be used by teams to increase the immersion level of players.

The ArmA 2 mod has a lot of mechanics, but the leading developer says that players intuitively understand what they need to do in any situation because they reflect real-life concepts.

According to PC Gamer, Hall told an audience at the Game Developer Conference that, “People understand the need to eat. They understand the need to drink. They realize that if you get shot, you’re gonna bleed.”

Mechanics that feel natural and complex also encourage players to interact with one another in order to understand the entire structure of DayZ.

The Standalone version of the undead powered game is expected to arrive in June in alpha state.
