The development team at From Software says that it is not trying to make Dark Souls II accessible by reducing the difficulty level but by simply streamlining the game mechanics in order to frustrate fans of the series less.

Yui Tanimura, the co-director of the experience, tells Edge that, “we apologise for using the word ‘accessible’ and misleading the fans. By ‘accessible’, what we mainly meant was going through the process of streamlining and carving away the fat to more clearly communicate the true essence of Dark Souls.”

When the game was first announced, some fans were disappointed by the comments coming from the development team and claimed that they would not play an experience that sacrificed the difficulty level in order to gain a bigger audience.

Dark Souls II will be launched on March 11 in the United States and March 14 in Europe on the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
