Namco Bandai has confirmed the release date for the upcoming action role-playing game Dark Souls II's PC edition to be April 25.

The date was leaked in a Namco Bandai ad for the Collector's Edition for PC, that also featured the release date alongside the limited edition contents, but the video game publisher did not confirm it, stating that it was still unannounced.

Prior to this, a placeholder image from Amazon pointed to a May 31 release date, but this time the confirmation is official, revealed on Namco Bandai Games Europe's YouTube channel along with the release of the first part of Dark Souls II's prologue, teasing players with the beginnings of their journey to get rid of the curse.

The information was also corroborated by Namco Bandai on the official Dark Souls Facebook page, indicating that the PC version will be released on Valve's worldwide digital distribution platform Steam.

The PC version of Dark Souls II is reported to run at a smooth rate of 60 frames per second and offer much higher resolution textures than its console counterparts, while also being rendered at a resolution up to four times higher.

The first screenshots of the PC version have also been published, showing how the game will make use of the increased processing power available.

Dark Souls II is currently scheduled for release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms on March 11 in North America and on March 14 in Europe, well before the April 25 PC launch.
