Fredrik Loving, the leader of the DICE studio in Los Angeles, says that the launch of Battlefield 4 shows how little difference there is between a main game release and downloadable content.

He tells GamesIndustry.biz that, “With the industry moving toward gaming as a service, I would say the line between the main game and what used to be called DLC is getting blurred out.”

DICE says that Battlefield 4 already has at least six DLC packs planned for launch, designed to deliver more maps for multiplayer fans, but also new modes and more customization options for their characters.

Alongside extra content, DICE is also planning to introduce more features for the Premium service and for the Battlelog app.

The Second Assault DLC will be delivered in early December and will bring maps from the past of the franchise.
