The team at Sony Online Entertainment working on the MMOs that the company has created announces that it will be performing maintenance operations on a number of servers associated with its titles starting at 11 AM Greenwich Mean Time on August 5.

The video games affected will include, according to the official announcement, Planetside 2, DC Universe Online, Everquest II and the new Landmark spin-off.

All commerce functions, purchases for games and all logins will be affected by the maintenance, and the company is not yet ready to say how long the period will last.

SOE is also unwilling to explain what kind of changes it is making to the infrastructure that sustains its MMOs.

The company is getting ready to finally launch a PlayStation 4 version of Planetside 2 and might be upgrading its network in order to make sure that it can sustain the increased number of players.

At the same time, SOE might be testing the hardware in order to see whether it can sustain the improved MMO experience that will be delivered via EverQuest Next, which is set to be launched in 2015 on the PC, and will also get a version for the PlayStation 4 at a later date.
