The development team working on Crusader Kings II announces that it has launched a major beta patch for the grand strategy experience, labeled 2.0.2, which can be tried out by all those who own the game on the Steam digital distribution service.

The major changes included are, according to the official announcement:

- Added a "Depose Antipope" Casus Belli - Added an "Antiking" faction. The leader usurps the liege's primary title, deposes the antipope and passes papal investiture. The Pope can be called into the resulting war. - Not possible to set up an antipope within 50 years of one being forcibly deposed - Fixed bug in Linux where the game became totally unplayable if you ALT+TAB - Now possible to play in Ironman mode with the ruler designer and mods (but you won't get achievements) - Significantly reduced the amount of event-spawned troops across the board to better reflect the rebalanced levies - Fixed crash bug in the Mac launcher

A look at the forum post will reveal that there are plenty other bugs that are eliminated and a number of smaller issues that have been solved.

The team explains that all those who try out the beta patch should offer feedback and should be especially careful to see whether it introduces any kind of big, game breaking problem.

The biggest positive change for Crusader Kings II is the fact that event spawned armies will be easier to defeat, which should allow a number of smaller nations to survive past the start date.
