Pete Hines, a vice president at publisher Bethesda, says that the ZeniMax Online team working on The Elder Scrolls Online tried to create cross-platform play between the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, but the experience was not a pleasant one.

He tells The Official Xbox Magazine that, “They don't all play with each other. PC and Mac play together, but Xbox One is its own thing and PS4 is its own thing.”

He also reiterated the fact that both next-gen consoles are essentially very powerful PCs with some custom hardware solutions, which makes it easier to launch The Elder Scrolls Online on them.

The MMO is designed to run separate servers for each version.

The Elder Scrolls Online will include a complex story and big Player vs. Player battles and will arrive in spring 2014.
