Criterion Games, the studio behind famous franchises like Burnout but also behind some of the more recent Need for Speed titles, now has just 17 employees, according to Creative Director Alex Ward, who confirmed that a large chunk of the team has formed Ghost Games UK.

Criterion Games made a name for itself by developing quite a few high-quality titles and by taking over the racing game efforts of Electronic Arts in recent years.

Now, after NFS: Most Wanted last year, the studio has handed the keys to the series to the newly formed Ghost Games developer in Sweden, so that it can focus on a new project that's not related to racing.

In order to keep the team focused, EA and Criterion decided to reduce the staff to just 17 people, according to Creative Director Alex Ward, who confirmed this on Twitter.

The other developers have formed Ghost Games UK and are aiding the main team in Sweden with the Need for Speed series.

Meanwhile, the small Criterion team is busy developing its own project.
