Counter-Strike fans can finally rejoice as Valve has kicked off the beta stage for the newest installment the series, Global Offensive, on the PC, through its Steam digital distribution service.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was announced earlier this year and, with the promise of combining the best elements from the classic Counter-Strike 1.6 with the graphical fidelity of the more recent Counter-Strike: Source, it’s certainly gotten plenty of shooter fans interested in it.

After delaying the beta stage due to some last-minute tweaks that were needed, Valve has now kicked off the closed beta for around 10,000 of its users.

Plenty of other people will be able to check out the online shooter as time progresses, with Valve accepting more players in waves until it gets enough feedback to deploy the final version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, sometime next year.
