Publisher Electronic Arts and the National Hockey League have announced that Claude Giroux, who is the forward of the Philadelphia Flyers, is the player who has been selected by fans of the sport to grace the cover of the NHL 13 from EA Sports.

The Philadelphia star has managed to win the popular vote by a margin of less than one percent over Pekka Rinne, who is the goalie of the Nashville Predators.

Claude Giroux has stated when the announcement was made that, “The support fans have given me throughout the campaign has been unbelievable. I am very excited to be on the cover of NHL 13 and I want to thank everyone who campaigned and voted for me - especially my teammates, the Flyers organization, and of course all the NHL fans who voted and tweeted.”

EA Sports revealed that more than 26 million votes were cast during the selection process between March 29 and June 4.

NHL 13 is expected to launch on September 11 in North America and three days later in Europe on home consoles.
