It appears that Firaxis, the developer of the Civilization series and recent XCOM reboot, is following in the footsteps of Blizzard, Mojang and ZeniMax Media and organizing its own fan convention, titled Firaxicon.

Firaxicon is meant to celebrate and promote Firaxis' major franchises (the two aforementioned ones as well as Pirates! and Railroads), and this year's debut edition will allow fans of the company's games to enjoy a tour of the Firaxis offices, a chance to meet the developers and win some "unique Firaxicon swag," as well as to get their hands on the upcoming Civ in space, Civilization: Beyond Earth.

The convention will take place the weekend of September 27, in Cockeysville, Maryland. You can purchase tickets through Eventbrite, and the event will also host a presentation from Sid Meier and an XCOM tournament where you can win The Golden Muton.

In addition to this, there will also be numerous panels and presentation, focused on past and upcoming Firaxis games, as well as a lot of boardgames for attendees to enjoy.

Civilization: Beyond Earth is scheduled to come out on October 24 this year, headed for Windows PC, Mac and Linux, and following mankind's first steps into space and its subsequent evolution as it adapts to a new environment or molds it into a more familiar shape.
