Gamers can get a taste of the experience ahead of expansion release

Developer Firaxis Games and publisher 2K Games have announced that starting today and until Sunday, May 27 at 1:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time, the turn-based strategy game Civilization V is free to play on the Steam digital distribution service.

Those who are interested in getting the game will also get a price cut of 75 percent in order to allow the player base to grow before the launch of the Gods & Kings expansion.

The new content can be pre-ordered starting on Monday, May 28, and those who get Civilization V during the weekend can keep the progress they make during the free-to-play sessions and carry forward with their quest to dominate the world.

Gods & Kings will launch during June and gamers will get access to a new religion mechanics, allowing them to create a belief system that is suited to their play style and their civilization.

The game will also introduce new units, new buildings, new civilizations and a better Artificial Intelligence.
