The team working on the newly announced Civilization Online says that it is only currently planning to launch the MMO-like title in South Korea, which will serve as a testing bed for the core concepts before any worldwide release is considered.

Brian Roundy, a public relations manager at 2K Games, tells Massively that, “Civilization Online is developed by South Korea-based XL Games in partnership with 2K, and will be available first in Korea.”

He also says that the game currently does not have a launch date.

Civilization Online is designed to allow the player to start out as a simple citizen of a faction.

He has the option to go to war against other players, either in small skirmishes or big battles, but he can also help collect resources for buildings or contribute to research assignments.

Civilization Online is not getting any input from franchise creator Sid Meier or the team at Firaxis.
