Sid Meier, the leader of the Firaxis development studio, says that he appreciates the working relationship he has with 2K Games because it gives him the freedom to explore his own ideas and the resources required to make them reality.

He tells GamesIndustry.biz that, “I get to design games, I get to program games, I get to work with the artists and the sound guys and do the fun stuff.”

He adds, “They worry about testing it and publishing it and promoting it and selling it – whatever it takes to do that I would be really bad at, they do.”

At the moment, Meier is overseeing the development process for Brave New World, the second expansion for Civilization V.

The game will be launched in July and will introduce new mechanics that will open up late game options.
