Firaxis announced Rising Tide, Civilization: Beyond Earth's first major content expansion yesterday, and now the developers have released a video detailing all the new stuff coming our way.

The video shows lead designer duo Will Miller and David McDonough, the two brains responsible for all the gameplay mechanics in the turn-based strategy game, going over all the major improvements in the expansion.

Rising Tide will enable gamers to construct floating cities in the middle of the sprawling oceans of the alien planets that mankind's pioneers have settled, offering them access to new resources and a slew of new military units.

But the depths also hold new alien menaces, so you'll have to brave new lurking horrors, in addition to all the competition from the other factions.

Speaking of which, there are two new ones coming in the expansion, and the devs touted an overhauled diplomacy system, offering the leaders of in-game groups more pronounced personalities.

From new biomes, which actually have an influence on gameplay this time around, to hybrid Affinities, there will be a lot of things for Civ veterans to sink their teeth into.

Civilization: Beyond Earth - Rising Tide is scheduled to drop sometime this fall, headed to Windows PC.
