Will Miller and David McDonough, the two Firaxis lead designers working on Civilization: Beyond Earth, say that they are aiming to include as much actual science as possible in the strategy title in order to make sure that they capture the attention of gamers.

They tell VentureBeat that, “We sort of trick you along the way — ‘Oh, this is totally real, we can totally do this’ — and, by the end of the game, you’ve gone totally sci-fi. But an emphasis on real science is part of our enthusiasm for the game. It’s an opportunity to have some fun.”

The pair also says that gamers should not expect the same approach as in Alpha Centauri, the classic Firaxis title that serves as a source of inspiration for Civilization: Beyond Earth.

Miller says that small, incremental steps when it comes to both the scientific advances and to the design of the various units means that gamers can stay immersed in the story of the title and retain an emotional connection to the fate of their faction.

Civilization: Beyond Earth will be launched on the PC before the end of the year.

The game will allow players to choose how to develop the human race on an alien world, battling both the flora and the fauna and other factions.
