City of Heroes, the superhero powered MMO from developer Paragon Studios and publisher NCsoft, has gone free-to-play and the two companies have put out a new batch of screenshots and a trailer showing off what players can access for free.

Brian Clayton, the executive producer at Paragon Studios, said, “Our fans have come to expect great content and with City of Heroes Freedom we’ve clearly raised the bar by delivering the best gameplay we’ve ever developed, and giving players the choice to truly customise their gaming experience.”

With the move to free-to-play the MMO also gets a new update, Issue 21: Convergence, which adds a new zone, called First Ward, with the Seend of Hamidon event.

There are also new epic challenges, new power sets and new costumes to try out, new missions and rewards.

The developers have also put together a new starting area for players who will be testing City of Heroes, designed to better explain the concepts of the game.
