Developer Colossal Order has teased that tunnels will be coming in the next update to Cities: Skylines, its very successful city-building video game.

After the disappointing Sim City 2013, many fans of city planning were waiting for the next big thing that would scratch their itch for optimizing traffic routes and budget management, and Cities: Skylines managed to fill that niche pretty nicely in March.

Since then, both Colossal Order and the enthusiastic community have been adding things to the game, expanding the base experience, and it looks like aspiring civil engineers will be able to toy with tunnels in the title's next patch.

Players will be able to create underground highways, and the feature also applies to train tracks, which is pretty exciting, especially when considering that the community is also actively engaged in creating new content, and even mods that alter some of the core options in the game.

The tease was made on Facebook, where a company representative suggested that the update would be released later this week.

The studio also plans to release paid expansions for Cities: Skylines further down the road, but for the time being, all the little additions have been free, which made the community like them even better.
