Montreal-based independent developer Pixels & Poutine has announced the launch of the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for their space capitalism game Cashtronauts.

Cashtronauts is a retro-style game of one to four players, that features two game modes: Venture and Skirmish.

Players choose their ship and play style, deciding whether they will focus on mining, become pirates and shoot down the miners or become enforcers and shoot down the pirates.

Numerous upgrades will be afforded to the game's players through the Black Hole Market, without interfering with the game's frantic arcade play style.

The Cashtronauts Kickstarter campaign features unique rewards for the project's backers, such as astronaut-style mission patches, 3D printed ship models and papercraft models.

A playable version of the game, featuring a demo of its Skirmish mode, is available on the Pixels & Poutine website.

The developers are currently looking to release the game for PC, Mac, Linux and Ouya.
