In view of the upcoming release of the Double Helix reboot of arcade classic Strider, Capcom has held a livestream showing some of the platformer's hectic gameplay.

The gameplay footage shows the flashy and fast-paced combat-oriented platforming action, developer Double Helix apparently managing to deliver a game worthy of the acclaimed original.

The video shows Strider fighting through a weapons research area, and culminates with a boss battle, against the Mecha Pon, the indomitable robot gorilla.

Many of the game's features can be seen over the course of the video, such as the possibility to deflect bullets with the Cypher, to freeze or burn enemies, and some of the special moves and how they can be employed.

Capcom has mentioned that Strider is structured like a Metroid title, with all the action set in a large, interconnected map, and that many opportunities for exploration and sidequests are presented to players.

Should they choose to ignore them and focus on the shortest possible path, an average play time will come to around 7-8 hours.

Strider is scheduled to release for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, sometime in early 2014, retailing for $15 / €11.
