Video game publisher Activision has announced that it will be making the multiplayer side of its blockbuster shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 free-to-play via the Steam service during the weekend.

Those who are interested in taking part in multiplayer action are now able to pre-load the game so that they can start playing exactly when the free weekend begins.

The free weekend will start on Thursday at 6 PM Greenwich Mean Time and all players will be able to enjoy every multiplayer mode the game has to offer.

Free-to-play weekends are a good way of attracting new blood to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and tend to immediately boost sales of the game.

Activision has already confirmed that another Call of Duty game will be launched during the fall of this year although it has not yet offered any clear details, despite rumors that are suggesting players will get to see another Black Ops focused storyline.
