The first-person shooter needs new ideas to evolve

Christofer Sundberg, a founder and the current creative director of Avalanche Studios, says that Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 mark the end of the current generation of first-person shooters, which need an infusion of ideas to progress.

He writes on Twitter that, "I predict the end of an era with #CoDGhosts and #BF4. I don't believe in the future for CoD and I believe that BF will live on as an MP game."

The developer says that both Electronic Arts and Activision need to find new ways to monetize a free-to-play experience that is built around the core multiplayer ideas of the FPS.

At the moment, Avalanche is working on a Mad Max game that's set to arrive in 2014 on the PC, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and current-gen consoles.

Fans also believe the studio is working on a new Just Cause title.
