The entire franchise might be in trouble next year

Doug Creutz, an analyst watching the video game industry for Cowen & Company, says that the recently launched Call of Duty: Ghosts is not posting the same good sales of previous titles in the series and might be the first sign of decline for the biggest shooter franchise on the market.

GamesIndustry.biz quotes him as saying that despite having an extra week on the market, the new title has managed to move only 81 percent of the amount of games that its predecessor, Black Ops 2, delivered to players.

The difference to Modern Warfare 3 is even more pronounced, at 36%.

The analyst states, “We don’t think it is out of the question that the title could wind up comparing down 20% to 25% year-over-year to Black Ops II, which is appreciably worse than the down 10 to 15% that we think is baked in to guidance.”

Publisher Activision has already said that Call of Duty: Ghosts might post smaller sales because of the console transition period.
