The development team at Infinity Ward and publisher Activision announce that the Onslaught downloadable content for Call of Duty: Ghosts is now available for the PC and the PlayStation home consoles.

This means that gamers are able to experience four entirely new multiplayer maps, called Bat View, Fog, Ignition and Containment, which have been designed to offer more varied combat scenarios to the community.

At the same time, the Maverick is being introduced, a dual purpose weapon that combines assault and sniper capabilities.

The team explains in the official announcement that, "Outfitted with a lightweight wood stock and a digital screen display, players can choose to use the Maverick as either an assault rifle or sniper rifle, depending on their tactical needs."

The Onslaught DLC also delivers the first episode of the Extinction narrative, which is set to tell a four-part story centered on an alien invasion and the heroic actions of players that stop it.

Two new species of enemies are introduced as a small team of elite soldiers needs to retrieve intel and exterminate a host of powerful creatures.

Activision and Infinity Ward have said that more DLC will be delivered for Call of Duty: Ghosts, first on the Xbox One and the 360 and then on other platforms.
