Video game publisher Activision announces that its recently launched Call of Duty: Ghosts has managed to generate sales of 1 billion dollars (753 million Euro) during its first day on sale.

This number does not represent copies of the game actually bought by gamers, but those that have been picked up by retailers to sit in stores.

The number is still impressive for a modern video game that arrives at the end of a hardware generation.

Bobby Kotick, chief executive officer of Activision Blizzard, states, “Although it is too early to assess sell-through for Call of Duty: Ghosts, it's launching at a time when the franchise has never been more popular.”

The official announcement from the publisher also says that Call of Duty: Ghosts has become the most played title on Xbox Live.

Versions of the shooter are also set to launch on the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft when they arrive in stores.
