Developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision announce that their Call of Duty: Ghosts is now free to play via the Steam digital distribution service from Valve until Sunday at 1 PM Pacific Standard Time, with gamers also able to buy the title with a 50 percent price cut.

The two companies state, "Call of Duty: Ghosts is an extraordinary step forward for one of the largest entertainment franchises of all-time. This new chapter in the Call of Duty franchise features a new dynamic where players are on the side of a crippled nation fighting not for freedom, or liberty, but simply to survive."

The special offer expires on Monday at 10 PM Pacific Time.

A big update for the first-person shooter has recently been delivered on all platforms.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is also launching the new Diamond Division for its Clan Wars mode on Monday, reserved for the most elite player groups.
