Marcin Iwinski, the chief executive officer at CD Projekt RED, says that the next generation of gaming consoles needs to impress gamers in a big way in order to generate sales and combat the rise of mobile gaming.

He tells Edge that, “I’m really curious what the platform holders will deliver this generation because they really have to surprise and blow people away.”

The executive says that technology will be important to the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox 720, but that Sony and Microsoft also need to create a direct relationship with consumers.

The structure should be similar to that seen on the PC with services likes Steam and GOG.com.

At the moment, CD Projekt RED is working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which will appear on the PlayStation 4, and on Cyberpunk 2077.
