Bungie, developer of the upcoming online multiplayer first-person shooter Destiny, believes that gamers don’t really care about 1080p/60fps, and that the core gameplay experience is what matters the most.

"It always used to be about graphics, and though 1080p and 60Hz are still out there, and as platform providers get competitive around those things it seems to magnify the importance of it," Bungie’s Jonty Barnes told Edge Magazine.

The magic PR numbers are being used by game companies and platform holders alike to build hype and sell games, and numerous heated discussions have been sparked by the issues one game or another faced while attempting to reach them.

"But it isn't about that, it's actually what is an awesome gameplay experience for the player and anything that gets in the way of the best player experience is baggage. I'm quoting directly from [Bungie co-founder Jason Jones] there."

"And, you know, as we've seen over the last few years, computer games are so much better, they're so much higher quality, and it's much more about the experience and less about those statistics," Barnes said.

Destiny is already running in native 1080p on the PlayStation 4, and the developer is working closely with Microsoft, attempting to reach the magic figure on the Xbox One as well.

Destiny is coming out on September 9, 2014, arriving on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles.
