The team wants them to test core ideas and find problems

Video game developer Bungie says that it expects the beta period for its upcoming Destiny title to attract more than a million gamers to test out the network infrastructure and the core game mechanics.

Eric Osborne, the leading writer working on the project, tells IGN that, “We need people to play story, multiplayer and co-op. We need them to go and create characters so we can understand those systems and what they mean for us.”

Even if Bungie is aiming to make the beta period as bug free as possible, the company simply lacks the manpower to do as much testing as a million dedicated fans can.

The developers plan to track gamer movement and the way they use guns and tackle missions to improve the final version of the game, which should be launched in the second quarter of 2014.

The shooter will be offered on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and current-gen consoles.
