Multiverse, the studio which was supposed to work on MMO games based on both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, has announced that it was closing down, mainly because it has failed to find a business model which ensured its profitability.

The company stated, “In 2008, Multiverse extended its platform to support the creation of web-based games and virtual worlds. As a proof of concept, the company released Battle, Team Battle, and Battle: Realms at War on Facebook and other Flash game portals. Multiverse also created promotional games for McDonalds and CocaCola to support the release of the Avatar motion picture in December 2009.”

Despite this it has failed to create a sustainable model for the long term and also failed to show off any clear details for the MMOs that were supposed to bring the Firefly and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universes to life for fans who loved the original television shows from Joss Whedon.
