Bohemia Interactive, the developer of the third-person zombie survival shooter DayZ, says that YouTube and Twitch are the main driving force behind the game's success.

DayZ producer Brian Hicks has revealed that the game is closing in on 3 million copies sold, which is an incredible feat, especially considering the fact that the title is yet incomplete, having been released on Steam Early Access last year.

The game has been a huge success with almost no marketing budget so far, and Hicks firmly believes that YouTube and Twitch are to blame for that.

"My personal opinion, since we have nearly $0 marketing budget – our marketing is me and Dean going to shows and interacting with consumers – I'd say Youtube and Twitch are the entire force behind DayZ's success," Hicks said in an interview with PCGamesN.

The game was pretty popular even back in the day when it was merely an Arma 2 mod, but things really picked up pace when Bohemia Interactive decided to turn it into a standalone, full-fledged game.

Now, DayZ is a mighty sandbox that inspires people and is a ripe environment to create interesting unique stories, which is one of the game's greatest strengths and the main reason it manages to capture the attention of streamers and their viewers, even more than Dota or Starcraft manage to.
