Blizzard Entertainment is planning to alter the parental controls modality on Battle.net, introducing the prevention of in-game purchases as a default setting, starting next week.

Battle.net accounts with enabled parental controls will be unable to make purchases via the World of Warcraft in-game shop or make any real currency purchases in Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft or in the Diablo III real-money auction house, which is going to close come March 18.

The news came in the form of an official Battle.net forums announcement, detailing the change and announcing that every eligible account will receive an email informing of the change.

The post also warns of potential phishing attempts advising members to carefully check the source of the email before clicking on anything and provides a sample email variant.

“We’re making this change to ensure that Parental Controls users will have more control over real-money purchases in Blizzard games. No action is needed to keep this default setting and prevent in-game purchases,” Blizzard informs its customers.
