After the launch of the first title in the BioShock game, the team at Irrational Games, publisher Take Two and movie studio Universal announced plans for a movie, but the project failed to get off the ground and was officially canceled soon after.

Jim Martin, a concept artist that was involved with the effort, is releasing some of the concept art that he created for the film, showing off how Rapture could have looked on the big screen.

The images are interesting because they are clearly inspired by the video game world that was created by Ken Levine and Irrational Games but also use no influences.

The BioShock movie was set to be created using a script from John Logan, who also worked on The Last Samurai, and Gore Verbinski was supposed to handle the directorial duties.

The success of the recent BioShock Infinite, one of the best games of 2013, means that we might soon hear about plans for a movie based on the world of Columbia.
