Basement Crawl is currently the lowest-rated game on the PlayStation 4, and it appears that its developer, Bloober Team, is looking to make things a little better for owners of its title.

The game is a Bomberman clone that's multiplayer-only and lacks a ton of the features that users would expect from a modern incarnation of the classic arcade action hit. It was released on the PlayStation 4 in February this year, and has since managed to get an aggregate review score of 27, according to Metacritic.

As such, Marc Colhoun of Bloober Team has announced that the developer intends to completely rebuild the game on a new engine and then offer it free of charge to all its current owners.

"Firstly, I think that I should start this off by apologising to those of you who bought Basement Crawl and have been waiting for us to fix it. The game was a mess for both you and us," Colhoun told GameSpot.

He said that he didn't want to say that the new version would earn any Game of the Year awards, but it would be a way for the team to regain the trust of gamers and offer them what they expected from the game.

"This deals with the technical issues we ran into but a few of you spoke about how there needs to be a tutorial, AI, more game types and so on. We have added all of these things into the game and more. We aren't talking about it too much right now simply because we are in no position to be making promises to people," Colhoun ended the statement.
