Medieval city-building game Banished has received an official release date from developer Shining Rock Software, and will be coming out on February 18, 2014.

After two and a half years in the making, the building strategy looks like it's ready to have its fans carefully place and maintain building, strategically manage resources and grow their budding societies.

Players are tasked with guiding a remote community of outcasts to a better future, developing and maintaining a thriving settlement, in a randomly generated resource sandbox.

The indie city building game will focus heavily on player freedom, and will have no combat, no online play and no “tech tree artificially guiding your hand.”

The town's inhabitants will also play a big role in the game, being the primary resource. Citizens will be born, grow old, work depending on personal needs and preferences, and eventually die. Keeping townsfolk happy and healthy will be essential to the growth of the city.

The game has been entirely developed by Luke Hodorowicz, under the studio name of Shining Rock Entertainment, and it will be available on the Banished website as well as on Steam, for around $20 / €15, starting February 18.
