Video game developer and publisher Disney has announced that its subsidiary Playdom is now at work on a new Facebook based social game that will be called Marvel: Avengers Alliance and will allow players to recruit their own group of heroes and battle villains as they solve quests and protect the innocent.

The comic book company Marvel has been acquired by Disney in 2009 and has since then looked for opportunities to use its well known line-up of characters, like Captain America, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, in video games and other products.

Marvel: Avengers Alliance will be free-to-play and gamers will be able to use a virtual currency called ISO-8 to increase the abilities of their characters.

Gamers will be able to get both heroes in villains in their roster and will be able to play against computer controlled enemies while also fighting against other real world humans in Player versus Player matches.

The launch date has not yet been revealed.
