Spike Chunsoft is supposedly looking into creating a localized version of their Attack on Titan game for the Nintendo 3DS, in order to release the game in western markets.

The information comes from a source cited by Siliconera, revealing that the company has also been searching for a publishing partner to facilitate the western launch.

Attack on Titan was released in December 2013 in Japan, seeing solid sales in its debut week and then being completely sold out at retail stores. The demand for the manga-inspired game has constantly outweighed the supply, in spite of Spike Chunsoft's efforts to keep the shelves stocked.

The game is based on a popular manga that also gave birth to an animated series, with the story presenting a dystopian, grim future where humanity lives inside cities surrounded by enormous walls, due to the fact that giant humanoid creatures roam the wild in search of yummy human-shaped treats to devour.

The entire journey begins when, after a hundred years of apparent peace, a colossal Titan manages to create a breach in the outermost wall, leading to the destruction of the outlying settlement and the revival of the threat that has almost wiped out mankind.

The game is said to have sold a total of over 240k copies by February in physical editions alone and to still be in short supply in retail stores.
