The animal activist association isn't happy with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag was revealed yesterday and impressed lots of fans, but the PETA organization (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) is quite upset with the new game because of its apparent depiction of whaling.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag puts players in the shoes of Edward Kenway, a pirate and an assassin who commands his own ship, the Jackdraw.

While it hasn't been confirmed by Ubisoft that players will be able to hunt whales in the game, a screenshot showing Kenway on his boat with a whale on the horizon has been enough to trigger a harsh response from PETA.

"Whaling—that is, shooting whales with harpoons and leaving them to struggle for an hour or more before they die or are hacked apart while they are still alive—may seem like something out of the history books, but this bloody industry still goes on today in the face of international condemnation, and it’s disgraceful for any game to glorify it. PETA encourages video game companies to create games that celebrate animals—not games that promote hurting and killing them," the organization told Venture Beat.

As of yet, however, Ubisoft hasn't commented on the whaling accusations.
