Nordic Games has revealed a surprise title among its Gamescom lineup, including Aquanox: Deep Descent on the list of games that will be shown behind closed doors at the show in Germany.

The AquaNox series is a pretty old PC franchise, a sort of action and simulation affair set in a distant future, that takes place entirely beneath the ocean. The games represent a sort of underwater version of Freelancer/Privateer, where players can trade, research, go on raids and generally engage in a lot of battles and make stuff blow up.

The original game takes place in the 22nd century, when Earth's natural resources are close to exhaustion and mankind is building mining stations beneath the waves, in order to extract the oceans' treasures.

Of course, the dwindling resources translate into political and social instability and wars break out, countries become hostile toward one another, and people flee to the depths for safety.

Last year, during Gamescom 2013, Nordic Games presented a demo that looked suspiciously akin to an Aquanox reboot, and it appears that the company found the concept interesting enough to further pursue.

The news that Nordic Games intends to showcase a demo of Aquanox 3 comes from Eurogamer Germany, and the publication also lists The Book of Unwritten Tales 2, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter and MX vs. ATV: Supercross among the titles that will be shown behind closed doors.
