The NPD Group is no longer offering actual sales numbers during its monthly report about the United States video game market, but an analyst at Macquarie Capital says that the Nintendo Wii U home console has only managed to sell 66,000 units during February.

The game-focused hardware performed much worse than the Xbox 360, which sold 302,000 devices, and the PlayStation 3, which managed to move 263,000 units to players, according to GamesIndustry.

Nintendo has acknowledged that Wii U sales have been below estimates and a price cut might be introduced later during the year to increase sales.

The company also plans to deliver more high-profile games for the platform, including some that use two GamePads and NFC.

Microsoft and Sony are expected to launch the Xbox 720 and the PlayStation 4 respectively before Christmas this year.
