Piers Harding-Rolls, an analyst working for HIS Electronic and Media, says that the PlayStation Plus service for the various Sony-made gaming platforms will generate about 1.2 billion dollars (824 million Euro) for the company by 2017.

A statement that VG247 has seen says, “Sony has already taken a major step towards a more profitable and competitive PlayStation business with a single but significant commercial decision to place online multiplayer gaming behind the PlayStation Plus subscription paywall.”

The analysis firm also believes that the reduced Research & Development and production costs for the PlayStation 4 will mean that the company will enjoy higher profits from its launch.

Sony has already said that it expects smaller losses for the first few months after launch than it registered when the PlayStation 3 was out.

An official launch date for the PS4 has not yet been offered, but an announcement might come at Gamescom.
