Microsoft might also launch the white version of the home console

Michael Pachter, who is watching the video game industry for Wedbush Morgan, says that the rumor about a disk-free Xbox One represents a very dumb idea that Microsoft will probably never implement because it would offer them no commercial advantage.

VG247 quotes him as saying that, "It would alienate GameStop and other retailers, and it would demonstrate that Microsoft can afford to release a 1TB Xbox One at $399 with essentially the same production cost as the $499 model with a 500GB HDD and a Blu-ray drive."

Pachter believes that the rumor is unfounded and that Microsoft will only work on expanding the hardware power of the Xbox One and will not try to change its core philosophy.

A rumor also says that the white version of the new Microsoft device will be offered to the general public as early as October, after being initially reserved for employees.
