Activision says that any speculation about the decline of the Call of Duty series should be put to rest by the fact that the newly launched Ghosts is played for longer periods, on average, than any previous installments in the franchise.

Eric Hirshberg, the leader of the division at Activision in charge of publishing, believes that the most important metric for the game is fan engagement and that there’s no sign that gamers are getting bored of the first-person shooter.

He is quoted by VideoGamer as saying that, “we’re seeing longer average playtimes than ever before, we’re confident that we’re doing well by the criteria that matter most.”

Call of Duty: Ghosts introduces a number of new game modes, including Squads, and gamers can also take part in the new Clan Wars, which might account for the longer periods they are spending with the game.
