Video game publisher Activision Blizzard has denied that it has blacklisted a number of France-based sites that have reported on the rumored existence of a Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, saying that the whole matter was a misunderstanding that will be quickly resolved.

A statement from Activision Blizzard given to VG247 reads: “Activision doesn’t blacklist journalists. We believe this was a misunderstanding and are working towards a resolution.”

The France-based Gameblog originally reported that the local branch of Amazon had put up a listing for Black Ops 2 on Friday.

The story has since disappeared and the site reported that it was under pressure from the publisher, which threatened with blacklisting it.

Other sites reporting on the Black Ops 2 listing have removed their stories and talked about pressure from the video game publisher.

Activision says that it has no intention of barring access for any publication.

A new Call of Duty title is prepared for a late 2012 launch, although the title and the developer have not yet been revealed.
